Pt. 2) Meine erste Ausstellung – hinter den Kulissen: Die Auswahl der Werke
Willkommen zum zweiten Behind-the-scenes meiner ersten Ausstellung! Ich habe so viel gelernt, was ich gerne mit euch teilen möchte. Heute geht es um die Auswahl der Werke. Viel Spaß!
Als das Organisatorische stand (Ausstellungszeitraum, welche Infos braucht die Brot-Galerie noch etc.), ging es an die Auswahl der Werke. Ich wurde gefragt, wie ich das gemacht habe, zu entscheiden, welches Bild gezeigt werden soll und welches vielleicht auch nicht. Die Wahrheit ist: Die Brot-Galerie bietet so viel Fläche, dass alle bis auf ein Bild dort hängen konnten 🙂 Das hat es recht einfach gemacht.
Wahrscheinlich ist es auch eine Frage, wo der eigene Fokus gerade liegt. Welche Bilder sind gerade wichtig? Was möchte man zeigen und warum? Soll die Ausstellung ein bestimmtes Thema haben?
Das Thema, das alle meine Werke verbindet, ist die Kurrentschrift. Es gibt auch andere Themen, wie naturalistische Motive oder natürlich “den eigenen Weg gehen” im Leben – letzteres ist mein aktueller Fokus. Beim Auswahlprozess hat sich gezeigt, dass diese Bilder gut als Paar oder Gruppe hängen können. Das hat eine zusätzliche schöne Struktur in die Ausstellung gebracht. Sehr interessant, die eigenen Werke so einzuordnen!
Um die Ausstellung auf eines dieser Themen zu begrenzen, reicht das Portfolio aber noch nicht aus. Deshalb hieß die Ausstellung “Kunst in Kurrentschrift”, um insgesamt einen roten Faden zu haben.
Die Auswahl der Werke war also relativ leicht. Was dann folgte, nämlich Rahmen für die Bilder zu organisieren, war so ziemlich das genaue Gegenteil und sehr nervenaufreibend 🫣 Lest mehr darüber im nächsten Beitrag!

Pt. 2) My First Exhibition – Behind the Scenes: Selecting the Artworks
Welcome to the second behind-the-scenes post about my first exhibition! I’ve learned so much that I’d love to share with you. Today’s topic is selecting the artworks. Enjoy!
Once the organizational details were settled (exhibition dates, what information the Brot-Galerie still needed, etc.), it was time to select the artworks. I was asked how I went about deciding which picture should be shown and which perhaps shouldn’t. The truth is: The Brot Gallery offers so much space that every single picture except one could have been hung there 🙂 That made it pretty easy.
It’s probably also a question of where your own focus lies at the moment. Which pictures are important right now? What do you want to show and why? Should the exhibition have a specific theme?
The theme that connects all my works is Kurrent script. There are also other themes, such as naturalistic motifs or, of course, “going your own way” in life—the latter is my current focus. During the selection process, it became clear that these images work well when hung in pairs or groups. This added a lovely structure to the exhibition. It’s very interesting to organize your own works in this way!
However, the portfolio isn’t yet extensive enough to limit the exhibition to just one of these themes. That’s why the exhibition was titled “Art in Kurrent Script,” to provide an overarching theme.
So choosing the artwork was actually pretty easy. What came next—finding frames for the pictures—was pretty much the exact opposite and really nerve-wracking 🫣Read more about it in the next post!
